SABRE SPRINGS, Calif. – A 57-year-old man suffered severe neck and spine injuries after a car he was riding in lost control and crashed Tuesday morning in Sabre Springs. The driver has been arrested on drunken driving charges.
San Diego police report that a Honda carrying two people was traveling in the 13000 block of Evening Creek Drive, near State Route 56, at around 1:15 a.m. when the driver smashed into a parked car. The Honda traveled for another 100 feet before coming to a stop.
A passenger was taken to Palomar Hospital with traumatic head and neck injuries. His condition was not confirmed. The 23-year-old male driver was not hurt. A San Diego police sergeant at the scene said the driver registered a blood-alcohol level of at least twice the legal limit, which is .08. He was arrested.
The driver reportedly told officers the two men were strangers who met at a bar Monday night and were headed to another bar when the crash occurred.
The exact circumstances of the crash were not immediately disclosed. Evening Creek Drive remained closed as of 5:30 a.m.
